I am giving my age away right from the start. Growing up in Hells Kitchen I used to frequent most of the Automats in the mid town area. Here are a few locations I recall, can anybody add afew more? or correct my dimming memory Forty Second Street (On the South side) near 8th Ave.- On 8th Ave between 45 and 46 Street.- Again on 8th Ave.between 52 and 53th or was it 53 and 54 ?? There were a few others on side streets I can't pinpoint but one in particular was down a flight of steps. |

I am thrilled to have come across this site. My older brother Francis Sargent was a singer on the show. He was called the little man with the big voice. His singing partner was a little girl named Carol Ann Fago. I remember all of the names of the people listed on this site. We even once visited the twins in the Rockaways. I used to go to the show with my parents and brother every weekend.Sometimes appearing in the backround scenes. I remember "Aunt Alice" Clements as she was called and of course Mr. Herlihy. This has been a wonderful trip down memory lane. |

I lived in New York during the early fifties, and remember the automat building on Broadway and 104th.st. Which was then a Food-o-Rama supermarket. I lived in the building adjacent to it between 104th. and 105th.st. In front of the Post Office. Next to the automat building was the Edison which showed Spanish speaking movies. Would any one have a picture of this movie house.? |
