Hello, I was so happy to find your site! I have childhood memories of going to an Automat in Union Station in Toronto (late 60's early 70's). I told many people about the interesting resturant that my mother and aunt's took me too on a childhood visit to the "big city" - but no one could remember such a resturant. I finally saw something on television about the Automat and was quite thrilled to have a name for the resturant! However, I have not been able to find any information about an Automat in Union Station and no one I mention "Automat" to has any idea what I am talking about... not sure if you can help - but I appreciate your time. I am certainly going to buy your book!

Just checking back to see if there was any info regarding my earlier posting... I have since acquired a copy of your book (which I LOVE!) and am looking forward to one day solving the mystery of the Toronto Automat! :o) |

Hello- I know that Horn & Hardart tried to start up automats in Chicago and Boston but I have not found anything about restaurants in Canada. My family has some annual reports from the 60's and 70's- I'll see if I can find a mention there. |

Hello, I am trying to find out if the automat vending machine is still available to purchase? or if we need to purchase refurbished original machines? Also your coffee franchises do they use the automat machines at all in their stores? |

My agency did the advertising for Horn & Hardart from 1964 to 1967. I've written a book about our work which includes a Horn & Hardart case study. It is one among 46 other former clients. Your book, The Automat, includes a lovely photo of the coin-operated windows that I would very much like to include among the award-winning ads and window posters. I would be happy to e-mail a file of the case study for your review. I believe you'd be most pleased with the work. |

Marianne, This is part two of my post. In the early 1970's in the Nanuet Mall, Nanuet, N.Y. Thats Rockland County. You had a retail store, it lasted for several years before going out. Boy does my family miss it. My Grandfather used to take me all the time in the 50's ,60's, and 70's , till he passsed, my Dad as well who is now 83. It would be some treat to go with him again. |
