My wife Karin and I met in the H&H Retail store on 34th St. in Manhattan. I was a District Relief Manager as I attended college. Karin was a cashier as she completed High School. We have been married 41 years, have 2 children and 5 grandsons. |

My Mom and Dad also met a H&H in the 40's. John and Nancy Macerata. She made change and gave out the nickels. My dad started as a bus boy and stayed with the compay for 42 years. Was a plumber, safety engineer and then drove Frank Hardart around to where ever he wanted to go. I remember as a kid going to the H&H Christmas parties at the Waldorf Astoria. I can still remember how excited I would get the night before, because I was going to get all dressed up, go to this big hotel, see Santa and get presents. Those were the days. When I was 14, I started working during the summers in the commisary offices. Then at 16, I worked as a hostess at the Paramus, NJ H& H restaurant. |

Ha! My parents, Frank Valencia and mother, Renate Timpe, met there in about 1955 or so. They were bussers at that time...cleaned tables and then I think my mom was promoted to filling up the machines with food. She can still tell you where all the automats were -- she worked at all of them at one time or another. |
