As the book mentions, in the 1950s H&H opened new outlets in newly built suburban areas. I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on such new locations in both the NYC and Phila areas. Further, how far afield did H&H go to open a new location?
In the Phila area I know of Cheltenham PA and Bala Cynwyd PA (both just across the city line from Phila) as well as Cottman Ave (within Phila in a newly developed area). Would anyone know of other new locations in the Phila area? Likewise for NYC?
In the 1950s and 1960s these locations did very well. Sadly, patronage and ambience went down in the 1970s. The Bala Cynwyd location was the last "original" H&H location to stay open. As the book mentions, efforts were made to update some locations, but with mixed results. Would anyone know how the suburban NYC locations performed in the 1970s?
